Yorkshire Regional Defence & Security Cluster: A Front Door for a Strategic Region

Yorkshire holds a quietly significant place in the UK's national resilience - an established base of core businesses, a deep supply chain, world-class applied research, and a defence estate that most of the country never thinks about. What it lacked was a front door.

Supported by the Ministry of Defence through UK Defence Innovation, the Yorkshire Regional Defence & Security Cluster exists to connect that landscape, industry, higher education, and government - and to help regional businesses bring new ideas to market. Our brief was to give that mission a digital home: credible enough for Whitehall, open enough for a first-time member, and built to grow with the cluster itself.

We built the site on Webflow, structured around clarity over ceremony. Institutional audiences read quickly and judge faster, so the architecture leads with the region's strategic case, its industrial base, its universities, its assets, and routes visitors cleanly toward membership and involvement. Crown copyright imagery from the MOD's own archive grounds the site in the real, working fabric of UK defence rather than stock abstraction.

The result is a platform that does what good civic infrastructure should: it makes a complex regional story legible, and it gets out of the way of the people doing the work.
